Freakshow 10+ REG SEEDS
(also known as Freak Show or Shapeshifter) is a highly unusual sativa-dominant strain (roughly 80-90% sativa / 10% ) famous for its dramatic mutated leaf morphology. It stands out as one of the most visually striking and “freaky” cultivars available, often described as looking more like a fern, conifer, or ornamental plant than typical .
Origins and Genetics
Breeder Jordan (aka “Shapeshifter”), working off-grid near Yosemite National Park in California, developed it while stabilizing a specific terpene profile. He crossed progeny from Big Bud x Skunk #1 with progeny from Big Sur Holy Bud x Banana Kush. A mutant phenotype emerged with extreme leaf serrations and extra leaflets; instead of discarding it, Jordan selectively bred the “freaks” over generations (BX4 stabilization) to make the trait consistent. Humboldt Seed Company later commercialized it through collaboration with Jordan. It is sometimes classified as monstra due to its novelty, rather than strictly or sativa. The mutation affects leaf shape (fern-like fronds with needle-like leaflets) but not the plant’s ability to produce quality buds.
Appearance and Growth
Leaves: The defining feature—long, deeply serrated, fern- or frond-like foliage with many extra leaflets. Some phenotypes have more typical shapes but extreme serration. This makes it excellent for stealth/outdoor growing, as it can blend in with ornamental plants or avoid looking like .
Buds: Dense, large, girthy colas that appear as tangled masses of pine-needle-like structures with pistils bursting out. They are often neon green with orange hairs and heavy trichome coverage.
Structure: Tall sativa growth (can exceed 200 cm outdoors if untrained); responds well to topping, LST, and training. Flowering time is about 55-65+ days (around 8-10 weeks). Good yields reported by growers; resilient and adaptable indoors/outdoors/greenhouse.
Effects, Aroma, and Flavor
Typically 18-22% (around 19-20% average), with low CBD.
Effects: Energizing, euphoric, cerebral, and uplifting sativa buzz—tingly head high that promotes sociability, creativity, focus, and talkativeness, often transitioning to a mellow body relaxation. Good for daytime use; can cause strong munchies. Reviewers note a spacey yet clear-headed feel that’s long-lasting but not overwhelmingly potent for some.
Potential benefits (anecal): Chronic pain, depression, stress, muscle spasms, appetite loss, nausea.
Aroma/Flavor: Varies but often includes sweet/fruity cherry-citrus, diesel, pine, herbal, grapefruit, banana, or cheesy/spicy notes. Terpenes commonly include myrcene, limonene, and caryophyllene.
Growing Notes and Popularity
Growers love it for the novelty and fun factor—the leaves often put a smile on faces during veg and flower. It’s relatively easy and forgiving but can be stretchy in early stages and very smelly (potent pine/jelly/diesel aroma). Ideal for those wanting something unique or stealthy. Seeds are available from Humboldt Seed Company and other retailers (feminized and regular options).
There are other strains or crosses using “Freakshow” genetics, and similar leaf mutations exist (e.g., Duckfoot or ABC), but the stabilized Humboldt version is the main commercial one.
Overall, Freakshow is more than just a novelty—it’s a productive, potent, and genuinely weird addition to the world that highlights the plant’s genetic diversity. If you’re into unique grows or just want something conversation-starting, it’s a standout. Effects and exact traits can vary by phenotype and grower.
