Tanao Sri (often spelled Tanaosri or Ta Nao Si) is a historic Thai landrace strain originating from Thailand, specifically linked to the Tanaosri mountain range (also known as Tenasserim Hills) in western Thailand, including areas like Kaeng Krachan National Park near the Myanmar border. This strain has gained recognition as one of Thailand’s culturally and historically significant varieties. In recent years (around 2022 onward, following Thailand’s decriminalization), the Thai government identified and promoted four key strains as national heritage or approved varieties for cultivation and research, including variants of Tanaosri.
